Sixth International Conference on  User Modeling (UM97),
Sardinia, Italy, 2-5 June 1997
Each of the shadows is clearly an imperfect representation of the character that casts it. Similarly, in the present state of the art, a user model is often a flat and distorted portrayal of the user. By furthering cooperation among researchers with complementary perspectives, UM97 should lead to an advance in the state of the art, which can be duly reflected in the logo for its successor conference, UM99.
